Poetry

Thaw

shutterstock_167006963Build your tower high,

Block by block.

Reason and rightness

Are turret and crenellation.

Draw the bridge and drop the gate.

Silence shall reign.

Forgiveness

Lies folded in your darkest corner,

Unused,

Under guard,

Out of reach

Until regret runs as warm rain,

A trickle,

A flood,

And shame becomes a tide

Rising to your battlements.

The heat of apology

Beats down

Upon fortress

And defense

And excuse,

A key to melt your frozen lock.

  1. What a great take on the prompt! Your poetry is a surprise – even a revelation for me – your posts are generally light-hearted and fun, but not so your poems. It provides a good balance though. As the last time, also this week you nailed it – your poem is built up on a strong central image and it’s on a topic everyone can relate to… Thank you so much for sharing this little gem!

    • Thank you so much, Mara- you are very kind to say that. I find it easier to deal with discomfort in verse. Perhaps it is because the moment is do brief it does not dissolve into a rant or “poor me”regular tale. They are just pictures of emotion. A snapshot of a moment. 🙂 🙂 I am loving this challenge!

      • You are so very right. I seem to share your perspective in many respects. I’m usually not too enthusiastic with classic rant posts, but the darker the poetry, the better. So for me, what you’re doing works very well. And thank you for choosing to contribute your pieces to my rehab!
